Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT)
NMT is an advanced form of soft tissue manipulation. It integrates different forms of assessment and treatment protocols to focused areas of muscle fibres to locate and treat trigger points associated with myofascial pain and dysfunction (*).
Trigger points are identified as ‘hyperirritable’ spots in skeletal muscle that are associated with palpable nodules in taut bands of muscle fibres. Compression of a trigger point may elicit local tenderness or referred pain where tight contraction of muscle fibres form knots as a common cause of pain. The aim is to release the muscle fibres to normalise the contracted muscle from tension and restore muscle towards a relaxed state for optimum function.
